Honoring Those Valiant Troops! by David Bancroft I sit here in front of my PC a few days after celebrating a holiday in the United States called Memorial Day wondering how many in my own country who really gave much thought about its meaning respective to where our beloved country is today. (For the non-USA readers / visitors of NetNacs! this special day is all about honoring our men and women of all the USA armed forces who have given their lives in valiant effort for their country.) And regardless of the political importance or the level of popular support at the time, these heroes paid the ultimate price to help make my country and the free world that much safer . . . They all deserve the highest praise and remembrance! The same can also be said for those who died for their own country for the same reasons. Even troops of enemies must be classified accordingly when involved in a war (not terrorism) . . . as they died for their country while being led by misguided or even evil leaders. What should make Memorial Day for citizens in all countries of like mind pay homage to their fallen heroes is knowing that more names will be added to the role call each year . . . and even for reasons that should not have to be. They are even dying in pursuit of war criminals who are the cause of the Godless acts of terrorism that kill innocent lives. Then there is the worse type of scenario that is very sad indeed . . . the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan that could result in a nuclear confrontation with the potential of a 100 million lives being lost with an exchange that might last just several hours. Will there even be another Memorial Day for one or both of these countries if cooler heads do not prevail? As for now, I intend to focus on honoring those who gave their lives for my country with the hope that all our countries memorial lists grow ever more slowly and for ever more just causes. (There are others who are doing the same online . . . take a look at USA Patriotism!) Then there are the birthdays of our respective countries that deserve celebrating for what they mean to us. So we go from remembrance and honoring those who allowed our nations to survive . . . to partying out of pride of being part of a nation. July 4th is that day for the USA!
