I suspect many of you have several online friends who you would really like to meet in person. Even speaking with them over the phone, exchanging photos via email attachments, or video conferencing via a PC camera cannot replace the natural need to share some form of physical interaction that takes it beyond the digital, two dimensional relationship.
Just imagine that first handshake or hug . . . and then the ensuing conversations while making direct eye contact. Now, do you have a smile on your face when placing certain online friends in this setting?
I hope so, because it means you should try to find an opportunity to meet them in person. Of course, we all must be realistic relative to each other’s location and financial ability.
Still, it is really nice to do so when the chance presents itself, which did for me recently. I finally met two fine men who have been associated with me through several of my sites. It was really special and was a confirmation of how I already felt about them . . . Hopefully, they can say the same about me.
And while I will not go into details, it was especially heart warming to meet the younger one in person. We have shared many thoughts via online and phone for several years now that interacting with him in person was like talking to either of my similar aged sons . . . natural and comfortable. He was also a gracious host, who now has another good friend... my wife.
I wish all of you would one day have a similar experience and the lasting fond memories.David Bancroft
