Michael Moore's Rose Colored Glasses

I am sick and tired of people like Michael Moore traveling to foreign countries, spewing socialist ideals and doing everything possible to promote anti-American hatred.  Those who have seen Michael Moore's "shocumentaries" already recognize that his vision of events in the nations he visits is completely obscured from the windows of his palatial hotel rooms and the backseat of his chauffeur driven limousines.  Take Canada for instance... and here, I know of where I speak... my father is Canadian and my parents continue to reside in Canada.  Michael Moore would have you believe that our increasingly socialist, increasingly secular neighbor to the north is a heavenly paradise.  What a joke!  Michael Moore knows very little about the average American, and even less about Canada and Canadians.  Wake up Michael, Canada is not the swell place you perceive it to be... even if the UN says so.  You don't see the UN rushing to move their headquarters to Canada.

Every kind of crime is rampant in Canada.... but you will never see the likes of Michael Moore reviewing the sex-based murders of young women committed by Paul Bernardo or the mass murder of as many as 25 young women by Robert Pickton.  But why speak of mass murder... for crime of all forms, including violent cult crime, is rampant in Canada.  Canada has long been a breeding grounds for organized crime; for white collar criminals, Canada is a kindly northern retreat relatively free of prosecution of corporate crime.  Financial corruption therefore extends itself among elected officials at the provincial and federal level to a degree unparalleled elsewhere in the western world.  Of course, people like Michael Moore promote corruption in countries like Canada, by focusing Canada's mainstream media away from Canada and onto US politics.  Canada continues to be home to some of the most dangerous criminal motorcycle gangs in North America.  Street gangs present the same threat to youths in inner cities that they present in the US.  Domestic abuse runs at almost unchecked levels, while a corrupt court system with almost no room for appeal has allowed innocent people like David Milgard, Romeo Phillion, Guy Paul Morin, Thomas Sophono, and Don Marshall to reside in penitentiaries for a collective 75 years.  Dozens of other innocent people are suspected to continue to languish in Canadian prisons while an archaic justice system grinds ever closer to a complete halt.

Racism?  Young Canadian soldiers committed atrocities against Somali citizens inn 1997, killing at least 2 Somali civilians during a binge of drinking... Canadian officers were involved in the atrocities... no argument there.  Canada has long suppressed the rights of its aboriginal peoples.  Wholesale slaughter and massive relocation from rich lands to waste lands were common practices in Canada.  Today, linguists have difficulty studying the language of the Beothuk people, the original inhabitants of Newfoundland and Labrador... because they were all killed!  Louis Riel was a just political figure now recognized not just as a hero to the Metis people, but as a hero of national historic proportions... sounds like he should be on the dollar bill (or loony coin, rather), right... no, he was executed (read murdered) by the Canadian government to sub-serve western political gains.  The story of Riel and his people is heart-wrenching... and the plight of many native people in Canada continues to be so.  Is Michael Moore aware of how many aboriginal babies and toddlers were torn away from their families and adopted out to white middle class Canadians in this century?  Not simply torn from their families, but torn from their culture.  Aside from the physical and sexual abuse suffered by some of these children, the level of emotional abuse inherent in the practice itself, and therefore suffered by every child affected by these sanctioned kidnappings, was simply abominable.  Still don't buy the argument that racism existed and continues to exist in Canada?  Then read this document by Trevor Sissing... "how they kept Canada almost lily white."  Michael Moore might be interested to check into the history of small town Canada, and see which ordinances kept which people out of town after dark.

Seriously ill in Canada... need immediate medical attention... if you are lucky, a kindly provincial health official will see to it that you obtain air transport to the nearest medical facility on the US side of the Canada-US border.  Yes, you read that correctly.  The socialized medical system in Canada is nearly bankrupt... well, it is bankrupt... even if it is supported by personal income taxes generally 2 to 3 times higher than those paid by the average American, sales taxes generally 2 to 4 times higher than those paid by the average American, and capital gains taxes of proportions unimaginable to the average American (but which you will be paying all too soon if you elect John Kerry... the good side is that as the Democrats extract additional taxes from you upon your death, you may rest peacefully in the knowledge that your children have received nothing from your life's work other than a huge tax bill... hopefully, the Kerry kids will be OK, as much of their mother's Heinz fortune remains outside of the US).

But back to task... medical care facilities in Canada are so poorly equipped and so scarcely staffed that emergency medical assistance is often simply unavailable for patients with serious ailments.  Should we be surprised that the Canadian medical system is bankrupt, despite all of the taxes collected?  Well, Canadians need to ask where all of those tax dollars are collected (see corruption, above).  One might think that the money earned through the slaughter of over 300,000 seal pups in 2002, and about 75,000 seal pups each year following, will help the Canadian economy... but evidently, 75,000 seal pup hides per year does not actually generate much money.  But wait... didn't that seal killing stop nearly 2 decades ago because of intense international news coverage and media pressure.  Well, yes, but that sort of thing no longer interests either the Canadian or US media, who are pre-occupied with American politics, so the mass killing of seals is once again taking place off the eastern shores of Canada.

I could go on endlessly proving the point that Canada is far from paradise.  But that is a distraction from purpose.  Similarly, Michael Moore is a distraction from reality.  I was very frightened to see that he was given such a prominent position, a position of distinction, at the Democratic National Convention... in fact, like a lot of others... I was very, very frightened.  But I do recognize that, in addition to being a hate-mongerer, working diligently to conjure up anti-American sentiments everywhere he goes, Moore is also a fear-mongerer.  He manipulates facts to his convenience in his ongoing attempt to push the political system ever closer towards his goal of a socialist government in America.  And you thought only terrorists were pushing for socialism?  Moore pushes hatred... and he pushes fear... and he pushes with a total lack of regard for the founding principles of America.  I will do everything in my power to sequester my children from Moore's dangerous rhetoric.  Moore's front and center position at the DNC cost John Kerry credibility with a lot of potential voters... that might be alright in the absence of any controversy... but controversy literally swirls around John Kerry.  The fact that John Kerry holds Moore in such high esteem, and that John Kerry has attempted to elevate Moore's standing in the eye of the American public, will not instill confidence among moderate Democrats or among liberal Republicans.  I hope Moore's next "shocumentary" is entitled, "How I cost John Kerry the White House."
