Liberal Radio To Squeeze Out Rush? I feel like a victim already... I can no longer watch movies featuring George Clooney, the Baldwin brothers, or Danny Glover without being overcome by low grade nausea. To make matters worse, all of America has heard of the plans of America's wealthy liberal political moguls, led by Sheldon and Anita Drobny, to develop yet one more major liberal radio network to overpower conservative radio talk shows... most notably that of Rush Limbaugh. Occasionally Sean Hannity (a conservative) and Bill O'Reilly (a centrist) are lumped in with Rush... Hannity is clearly a Republican (nothing wrong with that... he doesn't pretend to be otherwise)... O'Reilly attacks left and right with equal passion... and he's like a Soprano episode... you may not want to watch, but you can't wait to see who he will strike out at next. So why is another major liberal broadcast network being planned... and why is such a non-event receiving so much media attention? The two reasons for the plan brought forward by the liberal moguls are that, i) there is no developed audience for current low impact left wing radio programming, and ii) there are no liberal media stars with enough entertainment value to counterbalance powerful right wing radio personalities (generally meaning Rush Limbaugh). And why is such a non-event receiving so much attention? Because the media is an extension of liberalism in America... once the bastion of free speech, the media became, and remains, a primarily liberal entity. To decry the popularity of a conservative administration as resulting from a biased right wing media (albeit non-existent) makes it necessary to i) ignore the existing and overwhelmingly liberal media, and ii) create an artificial need for a new liberal media. But is there no existing audience for liberal radio programming? While the well-heeled left wing powerbrokers appear to be more or less ignoring the many liberal networks and programs already in existence, how do such programs exist if they truly have no audience base? A short list of such radio fare might include i.e. America Network ("right wing nuts" don't listen), Political Strikes: Liberal Talk Radio, Radio Left (lots of protest music and calls to impeach the President), AnShell Media (a shell support network in support of all things liberal), Talk Left (dedicated to exposing corruption in the current administration), Radio Free West, the Sirius Left, Radio Power, and Democracy Now, to name just a few. And that is excusing the liberal editorial organizations, such as NPR and MSNBC... whose news reports are balanced, but whose editorials and guest commentaries are heavily slanted left. Why is Fox typically depicted as leaning to the right... primarily because the center (where Fox sits most of the time) is far right of the extreme left depicted by most news organizations (beware Mr. President, there are few right wing media personalities, at Fox or anywhere else for that matter). Moreover, are there no liberal media personalities powerful enough to compete with Rush? Well, let's consider a short list of possible capital "L" liberals, restricting the list to those who are recognized as being extremely outspoken, with powerful personalities and previous media experience (a number of whom are currently gainfully employed as liberal criers)... such a short list might include Susan or Tim Sarandon, any of the Baldwin brothers, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, Bill Maher (I found a single message posted in a "legalize marijuana" site, by a guy who was mad that Bill was cancelled by ABC in 2002... so what's stopping HBO?), let's not forget George Clooney and Danny Glover, Al Franken, Michael Moore, Phil Donahue, Katie Couric, Al Sharpton, Dan Rather, Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Cuomo, Jerry Brown, Jim Hightower, Gary Hart, Neil Rogers, Guy James, Alan Colmes, Vernon Jordan, Ralph Nader (well, maybe not Ralph Nader), Rosie O'Donnell, James Carvill, Bill Clinton or Al Gore. Canada's aging Liberal Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, will soon be out of work... and possibly available for liberal talk radio... although having held the highest political office in a socialist country since October of 1993 (and still counting), he should have pocketed enough coin so as to never have to work again. Can anyone seriously make a case that the majority of the radio airwaves aren't liberal? No, of course not. If you think otherwise, come on up to the farmhouse one night... we'll cozy up to the old radio and spin the dial a time or two and let you hear what you hear... get ready for a few surprises, including the constant caveats from more and more voices on the radio... "We're not liberal... we may sound liberal, but we're really not." Oh yes, you are! For the liberal media moguls to continue to blame their perceived failure of left wing radio on lack of an audience, on lack of network radio programming opportunities, and most certainly on lack of liberal media personalities is totally moronic. The left continues to own the media. Dr. W. David Currie |
