| ASLEEP AT THE KEYBOARD? BRITS CONNECT ANYTIME By Dr. W. David Currie BT Internet Anytime Service is an ISP at the end of its cable. BT advertises round the clock unmetered service but have been sending customers instructions, and now warnings to be sure to log off the Internet when computers are not in use. Hundreds of customers continue to ignore warnings that their accounts will be terminated if they don't log off! BT is wondering why its customers don't want to log off … and BT customers are wondering what Anytime Service means. As it turns out, "Anytime Service" is apparently a poor choice of names for an ISP which, in reality, can't maintain support to a few hundred extra customers whose computers are idle. BT has threatened to permanently close the accounts of the "guilty idle" within the next 2 weeks… that is, unless those customers get busy surfing. In order to know who is idle (BT calls these people "punters"), BT has to look at customer records, which may have upset some of their customers. Based on the way that BT customers are ignoring the warnings, BT may soon learn that they are not the only ISP on the bloc. Dr. W. David Currie |
