Our lady was intended to be the wife of that dirty ole man - The Sheriff of Nottingham, but Robin would have none of that, even though he was pillaging the countryside to take from the rich and give to the poor. So we have in Lady Marion women who are rescued by the man of their dreams and not bad dreams like having to live with a villain of a man.
Of course we men know that there have always been and will always be women warriors, equal to or greater in strength and character than most men, so please look for and read versions of the legend of Robin Hood which include Marion in this most excellent character, for those versions are true.
