A Time To Remember
by JJ Oakley

"September In The Rain" was playing on the radio this morning as I sat to write this article. The song from 1937, long ago, still has a gentle roll of melodic notes to soothe. I always looked forward to the beginning of the fall months. The leaves begin to splash the day with their colors and the cooling nights painted with the fall stars array themselves for their winter dance across the night sky.

We all tend to journey back from time to time to those earlier days in our minds eye. Moments of bliss and the special photo's imprinted on our canvas of life's memories. Have you ever found yourself asking your friends... "Do you remember when?" It seems like every time that question is asked . . . someone wants to relate a memory that is held special to them.

Shortly after the passing of my mother a few months ago, I found a stack of old 8mm films dating to the 50's. I imprinted the images onto a disc to salvage them from the ravages of time . . . and then sent a copy to my brother and sister. It was a wonderful re-visitation of us as small children with our Mom and Dad. The opening of Christmas presents, and splendid Easter dress up. I found myself caught up in those scenes and remembering from there to here and how far the trip has been.

It is a good thing to remember the times in our lives we hold dear. The coming of fall begins with September and the ushering out of the summer past. It brings forth the promise of the winter to come and the Holiday's we love.

This writer will hold the fall as his favorite time of year with many wonderful September's past. Do not ever let your yesterday's steal your tomorrows. There are many more wonderful times ahead with your loved ones along with the new photos to add to your minds scrapbook of memories.
