The Real Need |
| The Gulf coast has had its share of Hurricanes as we all know. Living about 100 miles from Mobile, it seems that our family has had its share of 70-80 MPH winds and rain as of late as well. With the many storms it seems that most of the trees that are going to fall; have done so. We are most fortunate to not have the water damage that our neighbors have incurred. Now there are all kinds of theory's as to . . .'why so many storms?' Much conjecture and speculation on the major news channels, but basically this writer thinks that's just the way it is. Gas around here is outrageous, as well as other commodes necessary for survival, but then that is the way of the entrepreneur, and some folks to gain through the tragic losses of their fellow brothers and sisters. Many good people give till it hurts to help. We pray that their contribution will not be squandered. Our lights go out after each storm, and we speak of getting a generator. We do this each time the lights go out. I wonder why? I suspect it complacency and delusional thinking . Certainly it will happen again. Something about building your house upon the sand? Now we will spend over 100 Billion dollars to rebuild just one city. Much more if they have their wish list fulfilled. There is one city that just flooded again. Should we rebuild it? One may ask that question. It would be much cheaper to give everyone in America a million dollars tax free. It was difficult to keep up with our soldiers as the storms pass. They seemed to fall on the back burner, as did most of the other world news. I am always amazed by the way news agencies decide what will be reported, and I speculate that this is a ratings battle. Blaming, rationalizing, minimizing, maximizing will never get the job done. We as a nation should pull together across partisan lines, and work together as citizens with one common cause. Our forefathers would never have made it living in an all for one system. I hope we will take a moment to remember this country was built by people working together for one common cause. Let our agenda's become for the best of all our citizens and not personal gain. |
