The Hour Glass by JJ Oakley The hour glass is something I used to love to look at. They were made most ornately, and stylish. I remember the beautiful one on the Wizard Of Oz. It seemed so tranquil to watch the grains of sand as they trickled through the tiny, precisely sized hole that would allow only so much sand trickle through its opening.
This was an ingenious way for measuring time, but now ... the hour glass is a pain in my ??? Asking why it was ever allowed to be used for the computer? No, the sand does not fall through the opening. It is just a way of telling us to hurry up and wait. I seem to wait on that hour glass a lot now.
Another wonderful instrument of art being used, and abused to the point of utter disdain. So there you go; I am no longer reminded of the hour glass as a time measurement. It is only a stop sign now, or at the very least saying, "This is gonna take a while". I suppose it could be construed as a symbol representing time. However, isn't that some kind of trickery? The passage of time requires, simply waiting for something to happen.
One may as well take a clock, and at least have a gauge to follow around its face... or up and down the thermometer. At least you would know when your requested operation would begin. Oh yeah, they do have that blue bar that runs across the upload screen.
I seem to be rambling here, but that is due to the hour glass on another program I was trying to work with it. It is telling me no, you can't yet, or the proverbial timed out note. The hour glass has changed what was once a very fond memory to me. |
